An ex-junkie finds hope
Cheryl Clock - St. Catharines Standard - May 3rd, 2010
Jan Hovdebo says bipolar disorder and alcoholism don't define her.
Jan tried to quit drugs, but surrounded by friends who had no intention of quitting, she couldn't. Then one day, she just left. She sold her car in the morning, rented a moving van, packed, lied that she was heading to British Columbia and started driving east with her two daughters. By 10:30 p.m., they crossed the border into Ontario and Jan tossed her cell phone and crack pipe into a ditch. Her destination: St. Catharines. And wellness.

Talking about Mental illness
The program provides secondary school students with the opportunity to hear the stories of community members who have experienced mental illness. The program also provides information about local mental health-related resources that provide support and help to youth coping with their own or a family member or friend's mental illness.
If you are interested in having TAMI Niagara at your school, please feel free to contact David Carmichael, the TAMI Niagara coordinator at 905 641-5222 x 244 or dcarmichael.tami@cmhaniagara.ca
